History of the Smithwood Cup

The Smithwood Cup officially began in the Spring of 2012, however the groundwork for the Smithwood Cup began in the summer of 2011 with the Smithwood Originals.  In the Summer of 2011 a heated rivalry began between Ryan Parker and Justin Smith vs Adam Soffe and Jimmy Parrillo, out of those heated battles grew the Smithwood Cup as we know it today.
The Smithwood Cup is named after the street in which the original Sigma Pi - Tuscaloosa chapter was located.  While the tournament has grown beyond just Sigma Pi members, the name has remained.

2020 Smithwood Cup

The 9th annual Smithwood Cup produced a similar result an OG win and a four peat.  These guys wont be stopped.  This year however the WC wasnt the main protagonist as the Horsemen came marching in with a new logo and new swag to go with it.  A final round stumble by team captain Jimmy Parrillo lead the way for the OG to once again climb that mountaintop.  2020 marked the beginning of a new tradition for the Smithwood, the blacksmith award.  The Blacksmith is given to the low gross player of the year.  Kyle Chaffin won both the Blacksmith and Woodworker!

2019 Smithwood Cup

The 8th Annual Smithwood Cup was another prolific victory for the OG.  The OG as they normally do dominated the first 3 rounds of the cup, coming out to a prolific lead heading into the final day.  As they normally do WC came roaring back winning 3 of their 4 matches but it wasnt enough as OG was able to hold on for an incredible 3 peat.  Zach Mullinax was the Woodworker, and 2019 marked the beginning of the legend Cort.

2018 Smithwood Cup

The 7th Annual Smithwood Cup was another prolific victory for the smooth and methodical OG. As what was determined to be the best value in Smithwood history Pinehurst was nothing short of amazing. Field trips to #2 and #4 did not disappoint and accommodations were spent chipping onto mid-pines hole #11. After day 1 all teams were pretty tight. Day 2 found the competition stretch into a 3 way tie between OG, NWO, and QCK. Round 3 thinned the pack down to 2 and by the end of the 72nd hole the results were tallied. OG had once again climbed the mountain. Justin Smith was awarded the 2019 Woodworker.

2017 Smithwood Cup

The 6th Annual Smithwood Cup was electric.  Never has the Smithwood seen a finish like what was seen in 2017.  QCK came into the cup as the favorites and defending champs, and through 61 holes they were in position to take home back to back cups. However they slopped through the final 9 holes to put end their run.  Leading the way for a Fore Horsemen/Olde Guard showdown for the ages.  The horsemen gave it their all but in the end they fell 1 stroke short, thanks to the newest team the NWO.  NWO came in a distant last place but they will forever be remembered in 2017 as the spoiler.  Nick "Banks" Daly drained a meaningless triple bogey bunker shot on the 72nd hole thus ensuring the Fore Horsemen would not have enough points to defeat the Olde Guard.  If that bunker shot did not drop the Horsemens Sean Capiak had a putt for the win.  An incredible win for the Olde Guard as Adam Soffe and John Musser continued their dominance at the Cup.  John Musser took home the Woodworker.

2016 Smithwood Cup

The 5th Annual Smithwood Cup finally saw the changing in fortunes for Adam Soffe and John Musser.  The 4 time defending champions finally fell, but not without an epic fight.  The QCK dominated the first 3 rounds of the Cup setting themselves up for what they thought would be an easy 4th and final round to take home their first Smithwood Cup.  Team "Money" would not let that happen as they roared during the 1v1v1 Stroke Play competition taking the QCK to the wire, however the first 3 rounds would prove to the be the difference, as the QCK won by 1 point.  The Horsemen while improving on last year, brought up the rear again.  Adam Soffe took home the first ever Woodworker Jacket.

2015 Smithwood Cup

The 4th Annual Smithwood Cup saw a change in the dynamic of the Cup.  This rendition of the Championship saw 3 teams of 4 compete for the coveted Cup!  It was a tight battle between 2 of the teams, "Team Money" and QCK that led to a heated Championship Sunday.  Ultimately "Team Money" won giving captain Adam Soffe and John Musser their 4th straight Cup, with Scott Globetti, and Justin Smith winning their first!

2013 Smithwood Cup

The second Smithwood Cup played out nearly identical to the inagural Cup.  Team $ got off to a quick start, only to have Team "" work their way back into the tournament and eventually take the Cup again via a tiebreaker, another heartbreak for Team $.

2012 Smithwood Cup

In the inagural Smithwood Cup, Team "" took on Team $ in an neck and neck battle fitting of any inagural tournament.  Team $ got off to a big start day 1 but eventually squandered that lead making way for Team "" to be the inagural Champions based upon a tiebreaker.
